Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Beneroso met with Director, Micha Hendrix for the purpose of conducting an unannounced annual required inspection. During the time of this inspection LPA observed a total of 7 infants and 2 qualified infant teachers. This facility is a combination center with preschool license. The infant program operates Monday – Friday 6:15 AM-6:30 PM. LPA toured and inspected the school inside and out in accordance with the facility sketch.

Per the Director, there are no firearms or weapons on the premise. LPA did not observe bodies of water on the premise. Disinfectants, chemical compounds, and poisons were found to be inaccessible to children in care. LPA observed that cleaning compounds, disinfectants are stored in an upper cabinet and in the staff’s restroom which was to be inaccessible to children.

Furniture and equipment
The classroom, LPA observed cubbies in which infant's belongings can be stored. Infant bottles, and diapers were labeled with children's names. LPA observed that chemicals are kept separate from the infant’s food. There is a needs and services plan for each child to record the infant's care. Telephone service was verified. Heating, lighting, and ventilation are adequate.

There is a clean, fully equipped kitchen with a refrigerator, freezer, stove and microwave. The facility provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Menus are posted in the main entrance for parents to review. LPA observed an appropriate amount of food and snacks. LPA observed an appropriate amount of food and snacks.
Chemicals are kept separate and are stored in a locked room. The facility has ensured and establish measures to keep the facility free of flies and other insects or rodents. Food preparation area inaccessible to children there is a security gate and half door that separates the food preparation area. The food preparation area is adequately equipped, clean and free of hazards.

There is an operating telephone in the Child Care Center. LPA observed fully charged and operational 2A10BC fire extinguisher located on the premises of the facility. This facility has one or more functioning carbon monoxide detectors that meets statutory requirements. All storage containers for solid waste, including moveable bins, have tight fitted covers that are kept on, and are in good repair.

**The outdoor play area is toured and yard is completely fenced in. Outdoor play equipment was inspected for health and safety, toys were in good repair and age appropriate. Play area was inspected for hazards and inaccessibility to bodies of water there are no bodies of water on premises.

*Teacher child ratios were observed, and staff names recorded. Care and supervision was evaluated to determine the basic needs of children are being met and appropriate. Sign in and out sheets were reviewed. The parent board was reviewed and has all of the required forms posted. Fire/earthquake drills are maintained current, last fire drill was conducted 05/17/2023. Children's records and staff records were reviewed and are complete. LPA verified at least one staff person present that has a current Pediatric CPR and First Aid training expires on 05/02/2025.
LPA observed a changing mat within, arms reach of a sink in each room. The changing mat had at least 1” thick padding covered by a washable vinyl. Staff state that they wash their hands before and after each feeding and each diaper change of the child. The changing mat is sanitized after each use. The infant room was found to be sanitary and clean.
Napping Equipment
LPA observed a sufficient quantity of napping equipment for the children. LPA observed a total of four cribs one in which was an emergency crib used for evacuation. There are mats available for the children to sleep on. LPA observed age-appropriate toys and materials. Linens and bedding are washed daily for infants. Drinking water was observed to be available inside the classroom.
Medications:
This facility does not provide incidental medical services for infants. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226. When any IMS is provided, an updated Plan of Operation that includes IMS must be submitted to the Department.

There is a separate area for isolation and care of ill children next to the director’s office. LPA observed there is a staff bathroom near the front office.



Safe Sleep

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with director and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed director of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
