Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Thompson-Miller met with Licensee, Oluranti Lanre-Orepo who guided analyst on a tour of the facility for an One Year Inspection. This is a two story 5 bedroom, 3 bathroom home with kitchen/dining, family room, living room, formal dining, laundry and garage. There is no pool/spa or body of water on the premises. Family members residing in the home include three adults (licensee, licensee spouse, adult son) and one child. Upon arrival LPA observed 6 children (one infant and one pre-school and four school age), licensee assistant and licensee. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed.

Physical Plant: The home is clean and orderly. The home entrance is through the front door. Main day care will be provided in the living, formal dining rooms and the family room (used for infants). Licensee is made aware that napping children are to be supervised. Children use the bathroom on the right (go through the kitchen to hallway to access bathroom). Off limit areas include the entire upstairs (Bedroom #2 , #3, #4, #5, bathroom #2 and #3, laundry), Bedroom #1 (downstairs) and garage. Children eat in the kitchen area. There are gates between the kitchen and formal dining area (child care). The home was inspected inside and out for safety, comfort, cleanliness, telephone service, heating and ventilation, inaccessibility to poisons, detergents/cleaning compounds (up stairs), medicines (upstairs) and hazardous items that can pose a danger to children.

Fire/earthquake drills complete and maintained current. Roster complete and maintained current. Stairs are barricaded and have a gate in the hallway.

The smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector are in operable condition. LPA observed the required fire extinguisher (2A10BC) is fully charged. There are no weapon/firearms in the home. The facility sketch is complete and there is a working telephone (land line and cell).

Kitchen/bathroom: The following are inaccessible: Sharp items, mouthwash, shampoo, razor, nail polish. Toilet and faucet is clean an operable and home has a refrigerator/freezer clean. No chemicals in the kitchen were observed to be accessible. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.

Outdoor: The backyard is completely fenced. There is small slide and climbing structure for the younger children (ages 2 years to 6 years). There are two sheds that hold toys. Shaded area, sandbox (covered) and other age appropriate toys. No pets. The play area is clear and clean of debris. LPA observed water play being prepared for the children in the back yard. Licensee will supervise during the water activity.

Advisory/Other: First Aid kit was observed with supplies readily available. CPR/First Aid expire 08/15/2022.

All adults living/residing in the home are fingerprint cleared and associated.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Family Child Care Homes Section 102417. The following was discussed with the Licensee:


Mandatory Forms for the children’s files and provider’s files, Requirements for fire drills, earthquake drills and documentation for both. Role and responsibilities of being a mandated reporter were reviewed. Licensee reminded that 100% supervision is required at all times to children in care. Licensee advised how to access forms and Regulations for Family Child Care online at www.ccld.ca.gov . Licensee made aware that it is her responsibility to know the regulations as well as anyone who assists in providing care. Licensee advised that inaccessibility of hazards must be constantly reassessed depending on the children in care. Licensing must have the facility’s phone number at all times; if the phone number is changed, licensing must be notified. Regulation prohibits the smoking of tobacco in a private residence that is licensed as a family child care home and in those areas of the family day care home where children are present (24/7 ban). State law prohibits baby walkers, bouncy seats, exersaucers and any other items that fall into that category.
