LPA toured the facility. The furniture, books, games, toys and play equipment, both inside and out, are safe, age-appropriate and in good repair. All rooms have adequate heating, lighting and ventilation, are clean and orderly, and are free of hazards. Medications are kept in each classroom, inaccessible to children. Bathrooms and handwashing areas in each classroom are in a safe, sanitary and operating condition. The facility provides all meals for the Head Start program and a.m. and p.m. snacks for the remainder of the children who bring their own lunches. Food service area consists of a kitchen which is clean and sanitary with food protected from contamination and spoilage, stored in covered containers at 45 degrees (F) or less. No expired food items were noted. Snack menus were posted and are being stored for a minimum of 30 days. All hazardous items are stored where they are inaccessible to children. The outdoor play areas are fenced and have sufficient cushioning under and around play structures, swings and slides and there is adequate shade. The Head Start Program uses the grassy playground, the 2's use the smaller playground and occasionally the grassy playground, and the rest of the children use both the grassy and the large playground. There is no evidence of rodent or insect activity. The carbon monoxide detector is operational. There is at least one staff present with a current CPR and First Aid certification, to include an opening and closing staff. Sign in/out sheets were reviewed. LPA observed appropriate supervision in and out of the classroom. The last emergency drill was conducted this month. |
