NARRATIVE

There were 28 infant/toddlerss present with 7 staff as follows: Infant Room A: 4 infants with one teacher; Infant Room B: 8 infants with a teacher and an Aide; Toddler Room A: 8 toddlers with two teachers and Toddler Room B: 8 toddlers with a teacher and an Aide. Facility is within ratio and capacity. Program operates Monday thru Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. LPA toured the rooms. The furniture, books, games and toys are safe, age-appropriate and in good repair. Rooms were a comfortable temperature during this visit. No hazards were noted. All foods/beverages are labeled/dated and stored per regulation in the infant room refrigerator. Food service area for older infants consists of a kitchen which is clean and free of hazards, with food stored in covered containers at 45 degrees or less and the menu is posted. Infant bedding napping equipment is sufficient and meets regulatory requirements. The outdoor activity space is separate from other programs with age appropriate play equipment. Hand washing and toileting areas are in a safe, sanitary and in operating condition. All storage containers or trash cans containing solid waste have tight fitting lids and are in good repair. Infant changing tables are equipped per regulation and are within arm’s reach of a sink. Infant Needs and Services were on file for all infants. There is several staff present with current CPR and First Aid certification. Medications are centrally located in the office or in the classroom, depending upon the medication, inaccessible to children. There is no evidence of rodent or insect activity. The carbon monoxide detector is operational. LPA reviewed, sign in/out sheets, a sample of personnel records for educational qualifications and a sample of children's records for emergency information and medical assessments. SB 792 (staff immunizations) and AB 1207 (Mandated Reporter Training) requirements have been met. Facility is reminded the Mandated Reporter Training is to be retaken every two years and can be accessed at the following website: www.mandatedreporterca.com. SIDS was discussed. The ABC’S of Safe Sleep: Sleep is Safest: Alone, on their Back in an empty Crib on a firm mattress. Safe Sleep and Lead Exposure handout provided at last visit.

This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual – Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226. Facility has an approved IMS Plan. Services were in place today.
