25 | On 05/08/2024 at 9:40am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Samantha Clenista conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection for the purpose to inspect and measure an additional preschool playground that the facility requested be added to their overall preschool outdoor activity space. Upon arrival, LPA met with Facility Representatives, Cathy Goldberg (Center Director) and Lynn Thedell (Assistant Director).
Facility had applied for an increase of capacity from having 105 children, to 120 children. Facility is requesting to be licensed for 24 toddlers (18-36 months) in Rooms 103 and 104, and 96 preschool children (ages 2 to entry of TK/Kinder) in Rooms 200, 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 206 and 207. Fire clearance was granted on 04/03/2024. Present during today’s inspection were 68 children with 15 staff.
On 04/09/24, LPA conducted a Case Management inspection to initially address the facility's request of capacity increase and measured indoor and outdoor activity space. The total outdoor activity space originally designated for the preschool children measured at 3,826.45 sq. ft., sufficient to only accommodate 51 children at one time. Facility is requesting to care for 96 preschool children. LPA measured the additional outdoor play space that the facility added for preschool children (located next to the toddler playground) on the ground floor, and it measured at approximately 11,061 sq. ft. The new total outdoor activity space for the preschool is now 14,887.45 sq. ft., more than sufficient to accommodate the requested capacity.
LPA observed the new playground to have trees used for shade, and had a mixture of grass, cement and gravel/sand throughout the play area. There was no play structure observed. Facility Representatives stated that this new additional playground is going to be primarily a space to run around, play basketball, ride tricycles, and other gross motor activities due to how big and open the space is. LPA informed Facility Representatives that staff are required to maintain direct visual supervision of the children at all times during indoor and outdoor activities. |
