On 02/07/2023 at 12:30pm, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Selina Siao conducted an unannounced random inspection with the Licensee. The home was toured and inspected to ensure an environment safe for the care and supervision of children. Upon arrival, there were 11 children at the facility supervised by licensee, helpers Bhavani Vinoth Kannan and Saratha Nachiappan. Two children were picked up during the inspection. During nap time the two helpers left for lunch and licensee's husband/helper Jayashankar Valavan was home in the kitchen. The home has a fully charged fire extinguisher size 3A40BC, smoke and carbon monoxide detector that meet requirements and are operational. All hazardous items were latched/locked and secured out of reach of children. Licensee stated that there are no bodies of water or weapons in the home. A review of staff records on this date indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances. Licensee has an EMSA approved pediatric First Aid and CPR certifications are valid through 1/28/2024. Licensee completed the online mandated child abuse training on 03/09/2022 and helper Bhavani Kannan completed the online mandated child abuse training on 02/13/2022 and licensee was reminded that the training must be renew every two years. Licensee, her husband and helper Bhavani Kannan have the required immunization. Children’s records were reviewed and are in ordered. Facility has an updated roster and fire drill log available for review. Licensee last conducted a drill with the children in care on 12/14/2022. A copy of the updated facility roster was obtained during today’s inspection.

Licensee has provided adequate space for the children to eat, sleep and play within the home. Areas used for child care include living room, dining room, bedroom for napping and bathroom located downstairs. Off limits areas include: upstairs, family room and kitchen and the areas are inaccessible through use of safety gates. Licensee was advised that the gates needs to be secure at all times. The facility has sufficient toys and equipment available. The home has a fenced side yard available for outdoor activities.
