25 | LPA, Luigi Gargaro, conducted an unannounced inspection at the facility today. The home was toured and inspected to ensure an environment safe for the care and supervision of children per the standards established in CCR, Title 22, Division 12, Chapter 3, for Family Child Care Homes. Present were the licensee, her cleared and associated mother and no day care children. Ms. Shire states her care is usually conducted during afternoon and evening hours. The fire extinguisher and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors meet requirements and are operational. All hazardous items were latched/locked and secured out of reach of children. The licensee was asked whether she had any weapons in the home and she replied no. A review of staff records on this date indicates that all adults or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions. First Aid and CPR certifications expire on February 22, 2020 for the licensee. Children’s records were reviewed and found to be in order.
Licensee uses the following rooms for childcare: the kitchen, the dining area, the living room, the first bedroom (primarily as a walk through room for children to access the front patio play area when needed but the room was reviewed today and found to be safely child proofed) and the day care bathroom. The following areas are off limits: the second main floor bedroom, the second floor, the lower floor level which contains the home garage and the patio off the living room. The second bedroom is made off limits with a locking door knob. The upper and lower floors are made off limits with installed child safety gates at the staircase entrances. The patio is made off limits with a latching sliding patio door. The licensee has sufficient day care equipment available. The complex has a gated community pool area that is maintained by the complex management and is only accessible with a facility gate key. The licensee also has a patio off the first bedroom that is a supplemental outdoor play area for day care children. The patio has a wooden enclosure but as the enclosure does not completely go to the ground licensee understands that any time day care children are using the area, direct supervision must always be provided to ensure their safety and that they remain in the patio. Licensee also takes children to a local park for outdoor activity. The licensee has sufficient toys and equipment available. |
