25 | On May 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Luigi Gargaro, conducted an unannounced annual required inspection and met with the licensee, Ayan Sheikh-Mohamed and facility assistant Amal Hassan. LPA disclosed the purpose of the inspection and was granted entry into the facility by the Ms. Hassan. Four (4) children and the two staff members were present in the facility during this inspection. This facility is a one floor, three bedroom, two bathroom house. Licensee and assistant accompanied LPA inside and out of the facility during this inspection. The following areas used for child care are: the kitchen, the dining area, the living room, the day care play room, the first bedroom and the bathroom. Off limits areas are the second bedroom with inclusive bath and the garage. The bedroom is made off limits with a door knob cover that is installed on the door handle. The garage is inaccessible through the use of a door lock and a dead bolt lock on its entry door as well as an installed door knob cover. The home has a wall heating unit that the licensee attests is non-operable. Licensee understands, however, that if the unit is made to operate she must install a screen or other security device to make it inaccessible to children in care.
The fire extinguisher, smoke detector, and carbon monoxide detector met requirements. All hazardous items were inaccessible to children. The licensee has toys, play equipment and materials available. The home has a fenced backyard available for outdoor activities. The backyard is bisected by a retaining wall. The children do not play in the back part of the yard and licensee provides direct supervision when children are playing in yard to keep them from back area. No bodies of water observed on the premises during the inspection. Licensee stated there are no weapons in the home. A review of staff records on this date indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions.
Licensee’s and assistant's First Aid and CPR certifications both expired in July of 2021. Licensee and assistant have required immunizations. Licensee and helper's Mandated Reporter Training certifications expired on 03/20/20 and 03/30/20, respectively. Facility roster is maintained and was reviewed. The last fire and disaster drills were conducted in April of 2022. Licensee currently has no infants in care but analyst provided her with a copy of the safe sleep regulations for her to review at a future date. |
