32 | During staff interviews, one staff member indicated that Licensee uses redirection as a first option for discipline, and that if a child continues misbehaving, Licensee will raise her voice to get the child’s attention. The other staff member stated that Licensee will have children sit in a time-out chair for 2-3 minutes if they are misbehaving. During interview with LPA, Licensee stated that discipline policy differs depending on age of child and offered the following example: children under three years of age are redirected and children over the age of three and a half may receive a consequence (such as a time-out) for misbehaving. Licensee further stated that aggressive behavior is documented and that repeat offenses result in the child being disenrolled. During interviews with daycare children, one daycare child stated that children who misbehave are placed in time-out; the other daycare children did not provide any information on facility discipline practices. During interviews with daycare parents, two parents expressed no concerns with facility discipline policy.
Regarding the allegation that Licensee leaves daycare children unattended, LPA conducted interviews with Licensee, two staff, six daycare children and three parents. During interview with Licensee, staff schedules and child activities were discussed. Licensee stated that children are never left unattended during the course of the day. During interviews with staff, staff schedules were reviewed, and daycare routines were discussed. Staff further stated that children are never left unattended. During interviews with daycare children, two out of six children stated that children at the daycare are never left alone. During interviews with daycare parents, no information regarding this allegation was obtained.
Regarding the allegation that Licensee does not prevent daycare children from having access to a body of water while in care, LPA conducted interviews with Licensee, two staff, and six daycare children. During interview with Licensee, Licensee stated that the wading pool is only used on Fridays during summer time by the older children (at least four years old), and that the water is dumped out at the end of the day. Licensee further stated that children are never left unattended in the backyard during times when wading pool is in use. During interviews with staff, both staff members indicated that wading pool is only used on Fridays.
