25 | On 3/30/23 at 2:30pm, Licensing Program Analyst, Patrick Ma, met with Director Janet Manna and Co-coordinator Jill McMahon for the purpose of an unannounced annual inspection. This is an afterschool martial arts program. There were 44 children present with 5 staff in the facility. During this visit the facility is within ratio and capacity. Program operates M – F from 12 – 6pm.
LPA toured the facility. The rooms were designed and quipped with equipment to support the martial arts program. Adequate ventilation and heating are available. In addition to martial arts training the student are given an opportunity to complete homework and engage with available equipment including but not limited to books, games, toys and other safe, age-appropriate activities. All required forms were posted. No meals are prepared on site. Snacks are provided by the parents. Drinking water is readily available.
Hand washing and toileting areas are in a safe, sanitary and operating condition. Medications are kept in the Director’s office, inaccessible to children. Poisons, disinfectants, cleaning solutions and other items that are dangerous to children have been made inaccessible. There is no evidence of rodent or insect activity. There are no bodies of water, firearms or ammunition on the property. The carbon monoxide detector is operational. The facility has a written disaster plan in place that meets regulatory requirement and has been conducting and documenting evacuation drills every six months. The facility transport children and was reminded that according to the California Vehicle Code Section 15278(a)(2),” a driver is required to obtain an endorsement issued by the Department to operate any commercial motor vehicle…a passenger transportation vehicle…when designed, used or maintained to carry more than 10 persons including the driver.”
LPA reviewed sign in/out sheets, a sample of personnel records and a sample of children's records. There is at least one staff present with current CPR and First Aid certification.
