25 | Licensing Program Analyst, Joelle Redding, made an unannounced visit for the purpose of a random annual inspection. During this visit there were 15 children with 4 staff as follows: 8 children with the teacher and the Director in Room 4 and 7 children with two teachers in Room 3. Facility is within ratio and capacity. Program operates Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
LPA toured the facility. The furniture, toys, books, games and play equipment, both inside and out, are safe, age-appropriate and in good repair. Both rooms have adequate heating, lighting and ventilation, are clean and orderly, and are free of hazards. Medications are kept in a cabinet in the room or, when going outside, in a backpack. In both instances they are inaccessible to children. Bathrooms and handwashing areas are in a safe, sanitary and operating condition, located off the hallway. Snacks are provided and children bring their own lunches. Food service area consists of a kitchen area of the classroom and a refrigerator. Both clean and sanitary and food is stored safety, per regulation. Snack menus were posted and are being stored for a minimum of 30 days. All hazardous items are stored where they are inaccessible to children. The outdoor play area is fenced and has sufficient cushioning under and around play structures, swings and slides and adequate shade. This area is shared by the elementary school kindergarten. The age groups do not commingle. There is no evidence of rodent or insect activity. The carbon monoxide detector is operational. Several staff present have a current CPR and First Aid certification. Sign in/out sheets were reviewed. LPA observed appropriate supervision in and out of the classroom. Effects of Lead Exposure handout was provided for dissemination to parents/guardians of current and future enrollees.
A sample of children's records were reviewed for admission’s agreements and staff records for qualifications. SB 792 (staff immunizations) and AB 1207 (Mandated Reporter Training) requirements have been met. The facility is reminded that the Mandated Reporter Training is to be renewed every two years.
