25 | LPA Luigi Gargaro visited the facility to conduct a comprehensive site inspection. Upon arrival LPA met with site supervisor Barbara Thomas. During today's visit, there were 39 children present being supervised by site supervisor Thomas, teacher Zackary Perkins and substitute teacher Irene Castillo in the cafeteria. The children were engaged in homework and play activities. The children then broke off into separate groups with staff member Perkins taking children to the play area and staffer Castillo taking children to B-7 for other classroom activities. Room 4 is also approved for the program but was not in use during today's visit. Both rooms are sufficiently equipped to meet children and program needs. Appropriate care & visual supervision were observed during the visit.
Furniture and age appropriate equipment is in good condition. Care areas have adequate heating, lighting and ventilation. Children's bathrooms are located in main school building (Building #1), across the courtyard (separate boys and girls bathrooms). Bathrooms have doors that provide privacy. Staff shall ensure that children be escorted to/from the bathrooms. Paper towels and toilet paper are available in both restrooms. Bathrooms are lighted and have ventilation. Snack menu is posted. Drinking fountains are available outside the care areas. Cleaning supplies are stored in the janitor's closet, inaccessible to children. Facility is open solely in the afternoons from 2:10PM to 6:00PM (on Wednesdays 12:15PM to 6:00PM). A separate staff restroom (located near cafeteria) is available. Isolation areas for ill children are typically open, available classroom corners until parent pick up. The playground, which is solely dedicated to the after school program, is located on the rear side of the campus. Trees provide sufficient shade to children during outdoor activities as well as a shaded table area. Equipment is age appropriate. Children have access to facility water fountains for drinking water.
LPA reviewed sign in sheets and found them to be in compliance. Personnel records contain health screenings and children’s records contain emergency information and medical assessments. At least one staff member has current CPR and First Aid certifications. A review of staff records on this date indicates that all facility staff or other individuals who require caregiver background checks have received criminal record and child abuse clearances or exemptions. Fire and disaster drills are conducted as required. |
