25 | On 9/14/21 at 11:25 a.m., Licensing Program Analyst, Joelle Redding, met with Director Louann Kirby for the purpose of an unannounced annual inspection. There were 5 infants present with 3 teachers in the infant room. Facility is within ratio and capacity. Program operates Monday thru Friday from 7:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m.
LPA toured the room. The furniture, books, games and toys are safe, age-appropriate and in good repair. Room was /a comfortable temperature during this visit. No hazards were noted. All foods/beverages are labeled/dated and stored per regulation in the infant room refrigerator. Food service area for older infants consists of a kitchen which is clean and sanitary for storage of food brought from the school cafeteria. Menus are posted. Infant/bedding napping equipment is sufficient and meets regulatory requirements. The outdoor activity space is separate from other programs with age appropriate play equipment. There are two dirt areas on either end of the infant play area that have small rocks and other plant material. Supervision is in place to ensure that children do not venture toward that area. Replacing this with artificial grass has been addressed with the district to no avail. This is a potential hazard to chidlren in care and a deficiency will be cited.
Hand washing and toileting areas are in a safe, sanitary and operating condition. All storage containers or trash cans containing solid waste have tight fitting lids and are in good repair. Infant changing tables have padded, washable vinyl at least one inch thick with sides raised at least 3 inches, per regulation and are within arm’s reach of a sink. There is at least one staff present with current CPR and First Aid certification. Any medications are kept in the staff room, inaccessible to children. There is no evidence of rodent or insect activity. The carbon monoxide detector is operational. The school had a fire alarm go off during this visit. LPAs viewed the facility's evacuation procedure which went smoothly with staff accounting for each child in and out of the building and the rooms. LPA reviewed, sign in/out sheets, a sample of children's records for emergency information and medical assessments. Staff files are maintained at the District office and, despite Director's request, the District would not provide those on site for review today.
