25 | On November 17, 2023 at approximately 8:30am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Ly conducted an Unannounced Annual Visit to this family child care home and met with Licensee Susan Westry and her husband Dennis Westry. Purpose of visit was explained. Present during the visit were Licensee caring for 2 children.
Day Care Areas are on the first floor which consist of living room, kitchen dining room, the bedroom as children's room and the bathroom. Off Limit Areas are the entire second floor and the garage. Licensee’s Pediatric CPR/First is valid until 07/2025.
Based on file review and interview, Licensee's Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training has been expired. Expired training poses a potential health and safety risk to children in care. Type B deficiency has been issued on this day in accordance with the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, see LIC 809D.
LPA observed the home is clean orderly and properly ventilated. LPA also observed a 2A10BC Fire extinguisher, operable smoke detectors and carbon monoxide. There are no Fireplace or bodies of water in the home. Electrical outlets have child protective covers in place making them inaccessible to children. Chemical, detergents, cleaning compounds, medications, and other items of this nature are made inaccessible to children. Kitchen/Bathroom cabinets/drawers have child protective locks in place making all sharp objects or toxic house hold items inaccessible to children. First aid supplies are available for children. Facility conducts fire drills/earthquake drills on 11/08/2023 and was properly logged. Disciplinary policy was discussed with Licensee today. Home has age appropriate toys and equipment available for the children in care.
During today's visit, LPA reviewed children's files. Some of the children's files are incomplete. Licensee have been advised to obtain all needed documentation as soon as possible. A Technical Violation has been issued on this day.
