Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Mok conducted an unannounced annual inspection today. LPA met with the Site Director, Patty Lee, and owner, Helen Chan, and explained the purpose of the inspection to them. All adults have fingerprint clearance. There were 31 children with 6 staff and 1 Site Director present. This facility is a Chinese Bilingual School. The facility's operation hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The facility runs a preschool program in 5 classrooms (Bumblebee & Bunny - on the ground level; Kangaroo, Giraffe, and Polar Bear - on the second level. LPA inspected the facility for health and safety hazards. The facility was clean and in order, the temperature and lighting were adequate, and the toxins and harmful objects were made inaccessible to the children. There are two children's bathrooms which include two toilets and two sinks in each. The facility has a separate staff bathroom available for staff on the ground floor. All children have their cubbies to store their personal belongings in the classroom or outside the classroom. There were plenty of age-appropriate toys, books, learning materials & equipment, and children's furniture that were in good condition and repaired. All electrical outlets had internal blockages for childproofing. First aid supplies were available in each classroom. Cots with children's names were used for napping. Parents take the blankets home to wash every Friday. Sick children will be separated from the group and placed in the office while waiting for their parents to pick them up. The facility provides morning and afternoon snacks, breakfast, and lunch for children. The weekly menu was posted. LPA inspected the kitchen for health and safety. The food waste basket had a tight lid. The children bring their water bottles and the facility provides drinking water in water pitchers to them. The outdoor play yard was completely fenced. The facility installed soft cushioning on the entire playground to prevent injury. There were plenty of outdoor toys, ride-on toys, playhouses, slide structures, and climbing structures available for children. Those items were in good condition and repaired. Per the licensee, there was a child on special medication. LPA inspected the medication and documents during the inspection. At least one of the staff had current CPR/First Aid training available for review. Fire drill has been conducted at least 2 times a year. LPA reviewed staff and children's files and obtained a copy of the current children's roster during the inspection. All staff have current Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training. The facility posted all the required postings in the facility. The facility also passed the Lead Water Test in 7/2022.
