Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Justin Denton met with Director Shanna Long at St. Peter's Preschool, for a Case Management Inspection. Licensee had requested a change in capacity from 48 to 75 children due to the addition of a new classroom to the preschool. The new classroom is located in the same building as the existing classrooms, next door to the new preschool office.

There is an emergency exit door located at the west side of the classroom. The exit door leads to the school parking lot. Director Long stated the exit door will be used for emergency evacuation purposes only.

LPA observed cubbies for storage of children's personal belongings. Director Long stated that the children also have racks for their backpacks. LPA observed ample books, art supplies, and age appropriate furniture in the classroom.

LPA observed a fire extinguisher on the wall that meets regulation.

LPA provided the Community Care Licensing’s website www.ccld.ca.gov, so the licensee can obtain updated licensing information, new regulations and access forms. LPA advised licensee of their responsibility to stay current in regards to new regulations. LPA also included the email address for the children's advocacy program to stay current on new laws childcareadvocatesprogram@dss.ca.gov.

INDOOR ACTIVITY SPACE:
LPA inspected the classroom for the necessary space for the increased capacity. Napping materials are stored in a different classroom when not in use. Drinking water is available in a drinking fountain or children can bring their own water bottles. There is one restroom area equipped with one toilet and one sink. The classroom contains another sink for hand-washing and a drinking fountain. Outside of the classroom, two restrooms are accessible from the hallway, containing nine more toilets in order to support the requested capacity. LPA discussed 100% supervision of children utilizing the restroom. The total square footage for the new classroom is 956 square feet. This is sufficient for a capacity of 27 children.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITY SPACE:

The program will continue to use the outdoor play area as previously approved. LPA measured the outdoor area to be sufficient for the requested increase in capacity. The facility uses a pitcher and cups for drinking water. The outdoor play area is fenced and is equipped with several age-appropriate play structures. There are shaded areas including trees and a small gazebo. Also present is a storage shed on the south wall.

Fire clearance approval has been obtained from the Fire Marshall. Per approval of LPA Justin Denton, the facility will be licensed for a capacity of 75 preschool age children on 10/29/19.

Notice of Site Visit was posted and an exit interview was conducted.
