32 | Director indicated that she checks the weather app on her phone throughout the day and also listens to news reports regarding air quality when making decision about whether or not to limit children's outdoor activity time. Director reported that teachers pay attention to children and look for signs of being overheated and may either bring the children indoors or bring out water play activities or frozen ice pops. At 2:30pm, LPA observed that there is shade from trees covering approximately three quarters of the outdoor activity area including the climbing structures, swings and picnic tables. LPA observed the water dispenser and disposable cups accessible to children.
LPA conducted phone interviews with sixteen (16) parents of children who are currently attending and five (5) parents of children who are no longer attending the child care center. Of the parents interviewed, several voiced concerns about the air quality and extreme heat, but reported that the center staff were responsive to their concerns and that outdoor time was limited during this time. Parents reported that center staff communicated with parents regarding changes to the regular daily routine and that they observed that children were indoors more often than usual.
Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove the alleged violation did or did not occur, therefore the allegation is unsubstantiated.
No violations were cited during today's inspection.
Exit interview was conducted with Director, during which Appeal Rights were explained. This report along with a copy of the Appeal Rights (LIC 9058 FAS 01/16) and Notice of Site Visit (LIC9213) were left with Director whose signature on this report acknowledges receipt of these documents.
