On 3/20/25, 9:30 AM Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Shane Loftus and Cynthia Alvarez conducted an unannounced Required 3 Year inspection of the above-mentioned Family Child Care Home (FCCH). LPAs met with Maria Trejo, Licensee of the FCCH and explained the nature and purpose of the inspection. LPAs note two (2) children are present during the inspection.

LPAs, in the company of the Licensee, toured the exterior and interior of the FCCH. The home consists of four (4) bedrooms and two (2) bathrooms. The home’s living room, kitchen, dining area, bathroom, and outdoor yard are used for child care services, while the bedrooms, and garage are excluded from services. LPAs note that all bedroom doors were closed and have safety doorknobs making all bedrooms inaccessible to children in care.

The FCCH is orderly and has ventilation to afford for the children’s comfort and safety. Licensee reported that medication in the FCCH is stored in the Licensee's master bedroom. Sharps are stored in an elevated cabinet in the kitchen. Cleaning compounds are stored and secured under the kitchen sink. All areas were observed to be inaccessible to children in care. Toys, furniture and equipment observed in the FCCH are age appropriate. LPAs note the FCCH has a fireplace that is blocked by a large shelf.

Required forms are posted on the FCCH living room wall. The FCCH has smoke and carbon monoxide detectors which were tested at 9:43 AM and found to be operable. The FCCH has a regulation fire extinguisher which was serviced 02/11/25. LPAs reminded the Licensee to either service or purchase a regulation fire extinguisher annually.

LPAs reviewed the home’s fire/disaster drill documentation. The last drill was conducted on 10/21/24. The outdoor play yard is enclosed by wooden fencing. LPAs notes that the yard affords plenty of shade for the children. LPAs observed a locked shed in the outdoor play area. Licensee stated that gardening supplies are stored in the shed. Drinking water is made accessible by a large water jug and disposable cups. Toys, furniture and equipment observed in the yard are age appropriate. LPAs observed no bodies of water on site.

A sampling of the children's records was reviewed. The records contain emergency contact information as well as a log of naps in 15-minute intervals for the infant in care. The Licensee's records were also reviewed and found to contain Pediatric CPR and First (EMSA approved) expiring on 4/27/26 and Mandated Reporter training expiring on 11/16/26. The Licensee notes no firearms or ammunition are stored on site.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. When any IMS is provided, a Plan for Providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. The following information regarding ADA was provided: US Department of Justice (USDOJ) toll-free ADA Information Line at (800) 514-0301 (voice)/ (800) 514-0383 (TTY) and link to publication: Commonly Asked Questions about Child Care Centers and the ADA, available at: https://www.ada.gov/resources/child-care-centers/.

Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPAs discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPAs also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
