25 | On February 24, 2025, at approximately 9:00 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Melissa Zaragoza conducted an unannounced, annual inspection. LPA met with the director, Allison Steckley, and explained the purpose of the visit.
Peninsula Temple Sholom Preschool is a childcare center. Childcare center is a preschool age program. Preschool program is licensed for a total of 11 rooms, but 9 rooms are currently being occupied. Preschool program operates in RM 1, TK , “Giraffes class”, RM 2, TK, “Elephants”. RM 4, 3yrs old, “Kangaroos”, RM 6, 3yrs old, “Bears”, RM 7, 2yrs old, “Zebras”, RM 8, 3 yrs old, “Owls”, RM 9, 2yrs old, “Ducks”, RM 10 2 yrs old, “ Bunnies”, RM 11, 2yrs old, “Flamingos”, and the Napping Room (multi-purpose room).
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 6:00pm. Present during LPA's visit was the director, 114 preschool age children, and 19 teachers. Program is operating within capacity limits and ratio during LPA's visit. All staff present have fingerprints and background check on file.
LPA inspected facility, indoors and outdoors, for health and safety hazards. Classrooms includes a variety of toys and materials that were in good condition. LPA observed classroom to have age-appropriate furniture, equipment, and materials. LPA observed cleaning materials to be stored in high shelves, locked, inaccessible to children in care.
Per director, children nap while they are in preschool, and sleep in the napping room. Per director, children sleep in cots. LPA observed labeled bedding for each individual child. Per director, cots are wiped down daily. Per director, the parents provides the sheets and blankets. Per director, sheets and blankets are taken home weekly for wash.
The facility is equipped with a fully charged fire extinguisher and first aid kits. LPA observed Carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors in the classrooms. Carbon monoxide detector and smoke alarm was unable to get tested due to alarm being wired with the entire building. Storage for children's belongings is outside the classroom. Children's cubbies are labeled with children's individual pictures and names on it. LPA did not observe any accessible poisons or chemicals in the classrooms.
