25 | On May 24th, 2023 at approximately 2:30PM, Licensing Program Analysts (LPA) Tapia-Mandujano conducted an unannounced, annual, required inspection. LPA met with Program Manager, Ruby Andrade and explained the purpose of the inspection. Present in the facility are Program Manager and 11 staff caring for 70 school age children. All adults working in the facility are fingerprint cleared and associated with Administrative facility, Newton @Baywood. Facility is currently operating within teacher to child ratios on this date.
Newton program operates on Lower Laurel Elementary School that follows the Menlo Park City School District. Newton Program is licensed to operate in classrooms B2, E1, E2, E3, F1, F2, F3, G3, G6 and Multi-purpose room (gym). Facility is currently operating in B2, G6, and Multi-purpose room (gym). The facility operates M/T/W/F from 2:45pm-6pm and TH from 1:45pm-6pm.
LPA observed childcare areas to be clean and equipped with age appropriate materials. LPA observed facility has an installation of a fire alarm system throughout the school building as well as multiple fully charged, fire extinguishers. Facility has a smoke and carbon monoxide detector installed as well as an emergency kits with first aid materials and emergency contact information. Medication is stored appropriately in the emergency backpack, inaccessible to enrolled children and maintained with proper documentation.
All poisons, cleaning solutions and hazardous materials are stored inaccessible to children in off limit areas. Facility only offers snacks. Water is available to children indoors and outdoors with children's water bottles. Outdoor area appears to be clean and orderly. There are a variety of outdoor equipment that are in good working condition. Play structures have resilient padding. Children are signed in and out of facility by parents/staff signatures using the Brightwheel App. Facility has license documentation and information available for review in a binder.
LPA reviewed facility records and staff records. LPA observed children's and staff's records to be complete. Teachers have valid CPR certificates and mandated reporter certificates up to date. Last Emergency Drill was conducted on 03/2023. Emergency drills are conducted at least once every six months and are properly logged and documented.
