Newton program operates on an active elementary school site. The school age program is exempt from requirements for indoors and outdoor space square footage, fencing and toilet/sink ratios. No measurements were taken during LPA's visit. With program manager and director, LPA inspected classrooms to be added for health and safety hazards.
LPA observed each classroom to be clean, equipped with age appropriate furniture that was in good working condition. LPA observed a carbon monoxide detector in each room to be added. Carbon monoxide detectors were tested during visit and were observed to be working. LPA observed each classroom to include a fire alarm system and fully charged fire extinguishers.
Per director, materials stored in classrooms by district will be removed prior to Newton's use. Newton emergency backpacks will be kept in each classroom with emergency contact information. LPA did not observe any accessible poisons or cleaning solutions in classrooms. LPA observed cabinets and drawers without child safety locks to be free of poisonous materials.
