25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Pandora Huffman-Smith met with the applicant and the director today for a pre-licensing inspection. Also present today is the applicants husband and staff. The applicant is also the owner of another facility located in Palo Alto which is overseen by the San Jose Regional Office. The facility will operate Monday - Friday from 7:00AM to 6:00PM. The facility was inspected today, indoor and outdoor, for health and safety hazards and measured to calculate capacity.
Indoor: There are four classrooms; A3, B1, B2 & B3 that measure 2005 square feet allowing for a total capacity of 57 children. The facility appears to be clean and equipped with fire extinguishers, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, emergency supplies, first aid kits, napping equipment, children's cubbies (plastic containers), and toys and equipment for children. All furnishing and equipment appear to be safe and in good condition. There
are three bathrooms for children's usage; one in classroom A3 with one toilet and one sink, another connects classrooms B2 and B3 with one toilet and one sink and another outside in the corridor next to the director office with 3 toilets and 2 sinks. There are also an additional sink in classrooms A3, B1 and B2. There are a total 5 toilets allowing for a total capacity of 75 and 7 sinks allowing for a total capacity of 105. There is also a separate bathroom for staff usage. There are pitches and cups for drinking water for children. The facility will administer medication and will submit a plan of operation for incidental medical services. Medication will be stored in a cabinet in the staff lounge. The staff lounge or directors office will be used to isolate ill children until parent arrives for pickup and the staff bathroom will be used. All toxins and other hazardous items will be stored in a closet in the adjacent building and will be inaccessible to children.
Outdoor: There are 2 outdoor play areas; the large area measures 7848 square feet and the other is adjacent to classrooms B1, B2 and B3 that measures 1260 square feet for a total of 9108 square feet allowing for a capacity of 121 children. The large outdoor area appears to be clean and there is sufficient cushioning underneath the climbing structures. All toys and equipment appear to be safe and in good condition. The smaller outdoor area is an open grassed area that will be used for picnics or exercise. There is drinking water available outdoors for children.
