On 12/30/20, at 9:25 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elvin Baddley conducted an unannounced Case Management inspection at the abovementioned Family Child Care Home (FCCH) to assess the home’s garage for childcare use. LPA received a facility sketch (LIC 999) identifying the FCCH’s garage as an area designated for childcare on 12/30/20.

LPA met with Licensee of the FCCH, Carmen Lopez, and explained the nature/purpose of the inspection. Due to COVID 19 and the California Department of Public Health guidelines for social distancing, this inspection was conducted virtually, via the Face Time application. Pre-Screening Tele-Inspection questions were asked of the Licensee prior to the inspection.

LPA toured interior and exterior of the FCCH with the Licensee. The garage is accessed through two portals (kitchen/living room and a side yard door) There were no visible hazards or toxins observed or accessible to children. Cleaning compounds in the area are secured in cabinets with child safety locks. Additionally, the home's washer and dryer are stored behind a folding door in the area which is secured with child safety locks. LPA observed a restroom in the garage which contained a single sink and toilet. The bathroom is free of hazards.

Furniture, toys and equipment in the garage area are age appropriate. Licensee informed LPA the garage will not be used when the weather is extreme (i.e. too cold or too hot), rather, the Licensee will use areas in the interior of the home which are already approved for care.

The FCCH's garage is considered a suitable area and is approved for use as part of the FCCH's child care effective 12/30/20.
