On February 9, 2023 at 10:00 am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Francisca Velazquez conducted an unannounced Case Management Annual Continuation inspection of this Family Child Care Home (FCCH). Licensee is currently on required visits. LPA met with Adelaida Churape, Assistant of the FCCH who informed that Licensee, Alyssa Correa was out of the home dropping off children at school. LPA notes that Licensee, Alyssa Correa arrived about 10 minutes after the initiation of this inspection. Licensee was advised the reason for the inspection. At the time of the inspection there were six (6) children in care.

Licensee provided LPA a tour of the home inside and out. LPA observed the posting requirements in the day-care area of the home. LPA observed the FCCH to be clean and orderly with plenty of ventilation for the children in care. Licensee stores their knives in an elevated cabinet in the kitchen out of reach of children. LPA observe toxins/hazardous items are stored in an elevated cabinet in the kitchen and in the laundry room, both areas are inaccessible to children in care. LPA observed medication for the home is stored in an elevated cabinet in the kitchen inaccessible to children in care. LPA also observed a 2A10BC fire extinguisher on the counter of the kitchen that was purchased on 10/8/22. Licensee reported fire extinguisher will be mounted on the wall today. The bathroom used for children was observed to be clean and free of toxins. Licensee has age-appropriate toys and activities for the children to play with. Per Licensee, the backyard is not accessible to children in care due to landscaping changes occurring in the facility. LPA observed age-appropriate toys and structures in the backyard with sufficient shaded areas for the children in care. The backyard play area is fenced all around. LPA informed Licensee that the department must be notified once the backyard is accessible to children in care. LPA observed planned activities, lunch and nap transitions during this inspection.

Licensee file review revealed Licensee completed the required CPR/First Aid training in May 7, 2022. LPA also observed that licensees Mandated Reporter Training expires on January 16, 2023.

LPA reviewed the assistant’s file and found CPR/First aid training was taken on June 9, 2021. There was no Mandated Reporter Training certificate for assistant. Per assistant, she has completed her Mandated reporter training but does not have her certificate because it was on her phone but recently her phone broke and she lost all her emails. Assistant agrees to provide Licensee with certificate and agrees to retake the training if Assistant is unable to get a copy of her training certificate. LPA also reviewed children's files for all children that are present. LPA observed the last fire and disaster drill was conducted on 11/1/2022. Per Licensee, there are no guns or ammo in the FCCH.

No deficiencies were cited during today's inspection.

Incidental Medical Services (IMS) policy was discussed. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Family Child Care Home Section 102417. When any IMS is provided, a plan for providing IMS must be submitted to the Department. The following information regarding ADA was provided. US Department of Justice (USDOJ) toll-free ADA information line at (800) 514-0301 (voice) / (800) 514-0383 (TTY) and link to publication: Commonly asked questions about Child Care Centers and the ADA, available at: http://www.ada.gov/childqanda.htm.

Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee [facility representative] of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
