32 | Lavatories: Age appropriate sinks and toilets were inspected for availability and sufficient condition in all lavatories. LPA observed age appropriate sinks and toilets and were inspected for water temperature, toilet paper, area safety and sanitation. There are a total of 1 toilet and 1 sink available for the preschool children. LPA Almaraz observed the children's sinks are in working condition. LPA observed soap dispenser and disposable towels in the preschool bathrooms. There is an additional lavatory with one toilet and one sink on the school age side of the portable. Director states since they are separate bathrooms, the other can be utilized by sick children if necessary. School age and preschool children are not present at the same time. Director states staff uses lavatories in main building. Program schedule differentials ensure no commingling occurs thus, lavatories for both programs can be utilized at once. This keeps the toilet to child ratio compliant. There is one additional sink and facet in preschool area. LPA concludes, this area is currently in compliance with licensing standards.
Kitchen: There is one kitchen which is shared with the school age program. All kitchen areas/food preparation areas and food storage areas are kept clean and are free of litter, rubbish, rodents, and/or any other vermin. All storage containers for solid waste, including moveable receptacles that have tight-fitting covers that are kept on, and in good repair. Trash cans used to discard food, have tight fitting lids or solid waste bags discarded immediately after each meal. Menus are seasonal, posted one month in advance where it is visible by the child's authorized representative. Menus for the last two years are available upon request. Snack menus were reviewed. Food and snacks were reviewed for availability, quantity and appropriateness to children in care. Food preparation areas were toured for safety, cleanliness and proper equipment. One AM snack served daily. LPA concludes, this area is currently in compliance with licensing standards.
Outdoor playground equipment is in a safe condition, free of sharp, defective or pointed parts. The surface of the outdoor activity space is in a safe condition, free of hazards however needs to be sealed. All areas around or under high climbing equipment, swings, slides, and similar equipment are cushioned with material that absorbs a fall. There is adequate shade in the play yard. Availability of outdoor drinking water was observed. Director Corely states that this play area is used from 9:35 AM until 10:15 AM, although this area is shared with the transitional kindergarten and the special education preschool ages children, supervision and schedule differentials ensures there is no commingling between programs. The Director states an inquiry was made regarding updating the cushioning material for the play area. A work order was placed and this will be fixed by school board no later than June 2020.
