25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Stephanie Collins and Licensing Program Manager (LPM) Gladys Kuizon met with director Josefina Garcia, for an unannounced case management visit. The purpose of today's visit is to obtain more information on recent incidents reported by the facility. During visit LPA observed 16 children and 4 staff plus director in the premises.
On August 12, 2022, the facility reported child in care (C1) swallowing watercolor discs during an activity. Staff was present, intervened, notified parents, and called 911 for further medical assessment. C1 did not need further medical treatment. LPA toured the facility today and inspected activity materials including watercolor which were observed to be non-toxic and appropriate for age group served.
On September 14, 2022, facility reported staff (S1) was terminated due to a violation of the facility’s policies regarding children’s personal rights. Other staff reported witnessing S1 forcing a child to nap. Per the director, an internal investigation was conducted and S1 denied the allegation. However, per facility policy, S1 was terminated on 09/15/2022. LPA reviewed personnel records for S1 and staff training documents today. Based on records review, staff training scheduled for this month include the following topics: dealing with stress on the job, anti-bias education for children and providers, communication, and praise and acknowledgement.
Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Director, Josefina Garcia. No deficiencies issued during today's inspection.
