25 | On 08/19/2024 at 9:05am, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Jialing "Julianne" Zhu conducted an announced case management visit to view and discuss renovations to the outdoor play spaces scheduled to happen in August 23-24, 2024 and December 2024. LPA met with Director Senchal Rodriguez, architect (A1) who is overseeing the renovations, and the facilities manager (M1).
There are four (4) designated, fully-fenced outdoor play spaces at the facility. Two (2) of the outdoor spaces are for infants and toddlers (ages 0-36 months). (See LIC 809 under preschool license 434415331 for details on anticipated changes for preschool outdoor play spaces.)
The designated outdoor play space for infants 0-12 months is located directly in front of the classrooms. The space is currently fully fenced with a portable wooden railing about 3 feet high. The floor is made up of wooden planks and is covered with a large rug. On August 23-24, 2024, the main anticipated changes to this area is replacement of portable wooden fencing with permanent fencing made of wood and wiring that will be 4-feet high. An infant pull-up bar will also be installed along with the new fencing. A cushion material will be installed to the ground. There will be a small extension with a ramp to the right side of the play space. The square footage of this space is to remain the same or slightly larger.
The designated outdoor play space for infants and toddlers 12-36 months is located behind the infant classrooms. It is fully fenced and connected to the play spaces for preschool children and separated by push bar gates. On August 23-24, 2024, the two small patches of turf will be vacuumed to remove the sand. In December 2024, permanent shade will be installed along the existing fencing. Shade is currently provided by a large tree, canopy, and multiple shade umbrellas. The concrete edges around the sandpit will be removed and replaced with small vertical stumps.
Note: The renovations are subject to change as the plans are not finalized. Per architect and director, any adjustments to what is reported to LPA today should be minor. A facility sketch of the outdoor play spaces will be submitted to LPA after renovations are completed.
No deficiencies were cited during today's visit. Exit interview was conducted with Director Senchal Rodriguez. Notice of Site Visit and Appeal Rights were provided. |
