On June 22, 2021 at approximately 10:08 am Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Russ Haderer arrived to conduct an unannounced random annual site inspection for this preschool facility. LPA met with facility Executive Director, Susan Hoganes and toured all areas licensed for use by children in care for a health and safety inspection. Also present at the time of this inspection were 9 teaching staff and 15 children in care (all infants / toddlers under 2 years of age) and administrative support staff. The facility is within ratio and capacity. All adults present are background cleared and associated to this facility.

The facility is a series of single story classrooms on the campus of Stanford University with private playground space for the children. There are a total of 4 classrooms, of which one is closed and all are under capacity due to covid. The classrooms are as follows:

CIP3 Sprouts
CIP4 Gardenia
CIP5 Pine cone
CIP6 Dandelion

All classrooms currently in use were inspected. Appropriate postings were available in all classrooms, 3A40BC fire extinguishers were present in every classroom and fully charged with last annual inspection completed in February 2021. There are working carbon monoxide and fire detectors in every classroom ceiling with a pull down fire alarm in the lobby. Heating and ventilation was acceptable.

There facility is clean and well organized with age appropriate furnishings and equipment in good repair. Surfaces including floors and counter tops are free of hazards and toxins. There were no hazardous items/toxins observed to be accessible to children in care today. All required posted documents were present.

Disaster drills are conducted monthly and were up to date as of June 16, 2021. All toilets, hand washing and cleaning areas are in safe and sanitary operating condition. All surfaces accessible to children are clean and toxic free. The sign in/out sheets was reviewed and the children are signed in. Due to covid, snack / lunch menus are not in use at this time, each parent provides food for their own children.

- There are no waivers or exceptions at this facility

There are ample age-appropriate toys that appear to be safe and in good condition. There are no bodies of water accessible to children in care. All hazardous materials and toxins are kept out of the reach of children. All the toddler classrooms have a diaper changing table within arm's reach of a sink.

All toilets, hand washing and cleaning areas are in safe and sanitary operating condition. All storage containers for solid waste had a tight-fitting cover on. All surfaces accessible to children are clean and toxic free. The sign in/out sheets going back a minimum of 30 days were reviewed and the children present are signed in.

There is a food preparation area in each classroom which is equipped with refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher, and a sink with hot and cold running water. Cleaning supplies are stored in the bottom locked cabinets under the sink in each room inaccessible to the children. Each classroom has trash can with tight fitting cover for the disposal of solid waste.

The playground area is secured and locked, with doors that open outward and alarmed if opened. It is surrounded by a 6 foot privacy fence, all play equipment is in safe condition and free from sharp, loose or pointed parts and the areas around or under high climbing equipment has appropriate cushioned material that absorbs a fall. Shade was available in all play areas. Teachers are present in play areas.


The playground equipment is age appropriate. Drinking water will be provided via outdoor sippy cups and bottles. There is adequate equipment, supplies, and toys for infants outdoors.

The children's napping area was clean and organized with sleeping pads and cubbies for the children's personal items, none of the children's blankets were touching.

At approximately 1:30pm LPA performed children's record reviewed: LPA requested and reviewed facility roster. All files selected were complete and up to date and found to be in compliance with Title 22 regulations.

At approximately 2:00pm LPA performed staff file review. All staff subjected to criminal review have been cleared and associated to the facility. All files were complete, up to date and found to be in compliance with Title 22 regulations.

No deficiencies were found at facility during today’s inspection. A copy of this report to remain on file for 3 years. Exit interview was conducted with site Executive Director.
