Licensing Program Analyst (LPA), Cortney Nelson, met with Site Director, Rosa Mendoza, and explained purpose of todays visit, to conduct case management visit in response to self-reported unusual incident by the facility.

The facility reported on 10/9/2023 that a parent alleges that a teacher at the facility is hitting a child in care. The child is no longer attending the facility and a complaint was not made by the parent. During today's inspection, LPA interviewed staff, children, and the Site Director in relation to the alleged staff behavior.

After interviewing children, it was noted that children are directed to sit down next to a staff member when exhibiting challenging behaviors, such as hitting or hurting others. During that time, staff members may hold the child's hand so the child will remain in the chair while discussing the behaviors.

LPA observed videos submitted by the disgruntled parent and did not observe any indication that staff are hitting or kicking children. LPA interviewed staff about discipline strategies and all indicated that the facility uses redirection and does not do time out.

LPA reminded the Site Director that children shall not be restrained and that she shall be present at the facility during the hours of operation. Interviews conducted with staff indicate that the Site Director is not at the facility when it opens at 8:00AM.

No further investigation is required at this time, there was no evidence suggesting that staff are hitting or kicking children observed today. As a result of today's inspection, no deficiencies were cited.

Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with the Site Director, Rosa Mendoza.

A NOTICE OF SITE VISIT WAS GIVEN AND MUST BE POSTED FOR 30 DAYS.
