25 | Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Amy Strother met with Head of School, Candace Mackey (A1). An application was received on 07/16/21 with a request to add a second toddler component to the preschool license. The facility is currently licensed for 66 preschool children and 12 toddler, for a total capacity of 78. The application is requesting to add a new room to the license for use by a second group of 12 toddlers, named the "Seedlings". The facility is requesting to reduce the preschool capacity to 54 children and increase the toddler capacity to 24, for the same total capacity of 78. A Fire clearance approving the Seedling room for use was granted on 07/21/21 by Sonoma County Fire District.
The room meets the requirement for sufficient interior square footage. There are two toilets, 1 potty chair, and a changing table within arms reach of the sink. There were sufficient toys, furniture, equipment and sleeping mats for up to 12 children. There was a pull station located on the outside of the portable building, within arms reach of an exit door. There was a functioning carbon monoxide detector and smoke detector located on the wall in the kitchen area. Also in the kitchen, there was a fire extinguisher rated 2A10BC.
There is one toddler yard, located adjacent to the "Sapling" toddler room. A request for shared alternating use of the toddler yard by the Sapling and Seedling toddler groups was submitted to and approved by the department. The waiver for shared use must be posted next to each classrooms daily schedule. A daily schedule stating that the Saplings will use the toddler yard from 10:30am-11:30am and the Seedings will use the yard from 9:30am-10:30am was received. A1 provided a statement regarding how the Seedling group will safely travel to and from the toddler yard located off of the Sapling room, which states that the "Seedling classroom children will be escorted to the playground via path route to Redwood Gate and then through Toddler classroom gate to avoid any exposure to the driveway. Children would be holding hands or in the case of COVID times, on to a long scarf or piece of material to keep them together, along with their two teachers."
