32 | The director stated that after the 2019 Sonoma County wildfires, a restoration company was sent to inspect the facility’s HVAC system. The director stated that she believes that the restoration company did not properly torque a bolt inside the heater furnace; causing it to become loose and subsequently damaging the squirrel cage.
During the initial complaint investigation visit to the facility on 01/14/2020, LPA used two thermometers to take temperature readings. The classrooms used for childcare measured at least 68 degrees F; the minimum required room temperature per regulations. During today’s follow-up visit to the facility, a second temperature reading was taken inside the classroom and the room temperature was at least 68 degrees F. During both facility visits, LPA observed that the classrooms were set to a comfortable room temperature. Based off interviews conducted with preschool staff S2-S6 on 01/14/2020 beginning at 09:47am, staff interviewed all stated that this was an atypical event. Staff interviewed corroborated the director’s statements. A sample of preschool children were interviewed, and they did not indicate that they ever felt uncomfortable while in care due to the room temperature.
Although it was substantiated that the room temperature inside the pre-k classroom dropped below 68 degrees F during childcare hours due to a faulty heater furnace, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove that the alleged violation occurred due to negligence on the center’s part or any other violation of regulations; the allegation is unsubstantiated. An exit interview was conducted, and appeal rights were provided to the center director. The Notice of Site Visit must be posted for 30 days. There were no Title 22 deficiencies cited during today's inspection.
