On 01/11/2022, Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Luisa Gavoutian and Cynthia Brannon conducted an unannounced case management inspection. The purpose of today's inspection was to inspect a new play structure that was installed in the outdoor play area for use for the preschool children and to discuss COVID-19 public health face mask usage guidelines.

LPAs observed one large plastic play structure. The play structure has a side-by-side plastic double slide that exits on one side of the play structure and a twisting slide that exits the opposite side. There is a plastic bridge connecting the two sides of the play structure. LPAs observed both sides of the play structure has climbing structures to enter the play structure. LPAs shook the play structure at various points and observed the play structure to be securely anchored and sturdy. LPAs observed sufficient cushioning material in the form of wood chips underneath and surrounding the play structure. Director was reminded that wood chips must be raked regularly to fill the landing of the slides and underneath high climbing areas. The play structure is recommended for children ages 2-12. This facility serves preschool children ages 2-6. Director shall ensure that additional supervision is provided when children are using the play structure and LPAs discussed zoning with Director. LPAs advised that children also be taught play structure safety, such as walking, rather than running, near the structure, prior to use and be constantly reminded. Director has the play structure's user’s manual and shall ensure that the manufacturer’s instructions will be followed at all times. The play structure has been approved for use effective today, 01/11/2022.

On this date, LPAs observed all staff were wearing face coverings, but no children were wearing face coverings, as required by the CA Dept. of Public Health Guidance on the Use of Face Coverings issued June 18, 2020 and updated November 16, 2020, and an individual mask exception did not apply. LPAs discussed PIN 21-29-CCP: Face Covering Requirements and Guidance for Child Care Providers Regarding Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and encouraged Director to review the PIN and provide copies to parents/authorized representatives. Director stated that the facility has child-sized face coverings and each child has one in their cubby. LPAs reminded Director that an effort should be made to encourage, teach, and remind children to wear face coverings.

Per Chapter 1, Division 12, Title 22 of the California Code of Regulations no deficiencies were observed today. Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with Director Heidi de la Motte.

A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days.
