It was alleged that staff encourage daycare children to hit other daycare children. The Director was interviewed on 4/21/22 at 8:45am and denied the allegation and stated that children are never encouraged to hit back. The Director stated that if a child is hit they are told to ask the hitter to stop and walk away and if the child continues to hit they are told to go get a teacher. The Director stated that when a child is hit the hitter is removed, they try to find what the problem is, then both children are brought together to see if the issue can be resolved. Four staff, ten parents, and five children were interviewed on 4/21/22, 4/27/22, 4/28/22, 5/5/22 and 7/1/22 regarding the allegation. It was stated by four out of four staff that hitting is not allowed and children are encouraged to use their words and say “no thank you”. It was stated during staff interviews that children are not encouraged to hit and are put on time out for hitting. It was stated by nine out of ten parents that they have never seen staff encourage children to hit each other. It was stated by one parent that they heard children are encouraged to fight but has never seen it happen. It was stated by five out of five children that hitting is not allowed and it was stated that children are placed on time out for hitting. Although the allegation may have happened or is valid, there is not a preponderance of the evidence to prove that the alleged violation occurred, and the findings are unsubstantiated.
