25 | On November 27, 2023 Licensing Program Analysts (LPAs) Kari McWilliams and Monica Lopez conducted an unannounced case management inspection. LPAs met with Director Kathryn Hardie Price, toured the facility and a census was taken. LPAs informed Director Price the purpose of the inspection was due to a Hand Foot and Mouth(HFM) outbreak reported to the Department on November 15, 2023.
On November 15, 2023 Assistant Director Melissa Chavez reported 19 cases of HFM to the officer of the day. LPAs went over the facility's infection control policy and procedures. Director Price reported that every case or incident is reported to either Director Shawn Elkin or staff Jaynell Tipton of the facilities Infection Prevention Department. The Infection Prevention Department is then in communication with Dr. Haught with the Public Health Department to ensure that all health and safety measures are in place and being practiced. Director Price stated that the policy in the parents hand book states that a child is sent home with any fever, runny nose or sores in the mouth, they are also not allowed in the facility if the child exhibits, spots, dots or rashes.
Director Price communicated that the preventative cleaning practices consist of using Tersano Water, which is an oxygenated water that kills 99.9% of all bacteria and viruses, in infant rooms one and two. Staff is cleaning throughout the day, laundry is completed daily, when a mother comes into breast feed the mother sprays down the area with QT3 sanitizer and there are no parents allowed in the classroom. When an outbreak occurs and a child is sent home the Environmental Services Team (EVS) comes into the facility to clean and sanitize the classrooms. The carpets are deep cleaned, the cubbies, walls, window sills, diaper changing tables are all cleaned and sanitized. The toys are continually cleaned and sanitized as soon as the child puts the toy down so that another child does not pick up the toy and spread germs.
During todays inspection LPAs read over the policy and procedures in the parent handbook regarding medical exclusions and exposure to contagious diseases. LPAs also went over staff training regarding cleaning policies and procedures. Director Price was able to provide proof of the training's staff received |
