25 | On 6/8/23, at 1:15 PM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elvin Baddley conducted an unannounced One Year Required Inspection the abovementioned Child Care Center (CCC). LPA met with Shawn Smith, Director of the CCC and explained the purpose of the inspection. The LPA, in the company of Director, toured the interior and exterior of the CCC. The center operates from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday - Friday. The CCC is a combination center with an infant, preschool and school age licenses. The preschool uses three rooms (Discovery Preschool Room, Preschool Room and Pre K Room) for childcare. LPA observed 67 children in care during the inspection along with six teachers providing care and supervision.
The rooms used for childcare are clean and organized. The rooms have age appropriate toys and furnishings available for children in care. The CCC has an operable carbon monoxide detector which was tested at 2:50 PM. LPA observed an operable refrigerator in the CCC's kitchen which contains some food items for the children’s consumption. The CCC provides snacks (breakfast, lunch and PM) for children and lunches are also provided by the CCC. LPA notes there is available filtered drinking water for children both inside the CCC and outside in the play area. The facility’s water sources have been tested for lead containment level and results are displayed. Disinfectants, cleaning solutions, sharps and medications in CCC are located in areas (i.e. elevated cabinet, secure cabinets) which are inaccessible to children in care. LPA notes the restrooms used by children in care is in safe and sanitary condition. LPA reviewed licensing required notices and documents posted predominately near the entry of the CCC. The CCC uses an electronic Sign In/Out application. LPA reviewed entries and noted entries contain the arrival and departure times of children in care and as well as notations from authorized representatives.
The CCC's outdoor playground areas, two in total, are enclosed by a combination of wrought iron and chain link fencing. The fences' entry/exit gates are secured and the footing in the areas is varied. LPA observed age appropriate toys and play equipment in the play areas. The toys and play equipment are in suitable condition and free of sharp, loose or pointed objects. The play structures in the playground areas have cushioning materials to absorb falls and an abundance of shade created by trees and building overhangs. Director is reminded to replace toys and play equipment which has degraded and is in in good repair. No
