On 03/10/2022 at 10:00 am Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Christopher Jackson and Licensing Program Manager (LPM) Jeanne Smith conducted an unannounced random annual inspection. LPA met with facility representatives Kelly Twibell and Hannah Minter. The facility currently operates out four classrooms on the campus to U.C Davis. The facility utilizes student volunteers on site supervised by fully qualified staff. The program operates two part day sessions, Monday thru Thursday. The first session is from 8:30 to 11:30. The second session operates from 12:45 to 3:45.

A health and safety tour of the facility was conducted both inside and outside. The following areas are in compliance during today's inspection. There are no bodies of water on site. Firearms and ammunition are not present on the premises. Storage for cleaners are made inaccessible to children in care. Disinfectants, hazardous items are inaccessible to children. Furniture and equipment are sufficient, age appropriate and in good repair. LPA observed fire drills are conducted at least once every six months and documented. LPA observed smoke detector is mounted in the ceiling. Carbon Monoxide detectors are installed in each classroom and functional. Each room contains a fire extinguisher that meets regulation. There are two separate play areas for outdoor use.

LPA observed a small play structure in the first yard, with sand underneath the equipment for the substrate. The second outdoor play area is a large open space with various play equipment. The play structure in the second yard uses bark for the substrate. Children's toilets are located in the classroom. The restrooms are sanitary. Floors are clean and free of debris. The facility does not provide food. Snacks are brought by the parents to the facility. Trash containers for solid waste are covered. Drinking water is available both indoors and outside. The facility is in compliance with conditions and limitations specified on the license. Electronic sign in/sign out sheets are utilized and maintained. No excluded individuals are present. Staff subject to a criminal record clearance or exemption are associated to the facility. First Aid/CPR reviewed and expires 09/2023. A review of 10 children's records was conducted during today's inspection. Four staff records were reviewed during today's inspection.

The facility provides Incidental Medical Services – (IMS). policy LPA Reviewed storage of medications. Facility representative was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day up to $500.00 maximum per day/per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.

LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with Hannah Minter and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-and-resources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed Hannah Minter of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
