This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see Evaluator Manual - Regulation Interpretations and Procedures for Child Care Centers Sections 101173 and 101226.The following information regarding ADA was provided: US Department of Justice (USDOJ) toll-free ADA Information Line at (800) 514-0301 (voice)/ (800) 514-0383 (TTY) and link to publication: Commonly Asked Questions about Child Care Centers and the ADA, available at: http://www.ada.gov/childqanda.htm.
Per the Director, children bring their lunches and snacks from home each day. Staff ensure that all children are offered food in a safe and inclusive environment while accommodating known allergies and dietary restrictions. LPA reminded the Director that all persons engaged in food preparation and service shall observe proper personal hygiene and food service sanitation practices to protect food from contamination. All storage containers for solid waste have tight-fitting covers and were observed to be in good repair.
The staff bathroom is separate from the children’s bathrooms. The children’s bathrooms are located inside the classrooms. All sinks and toilets were operating properly. The water temperature from the faucets was within a safe range to prevent burns while being warm enough for effective handwashing. The center had an adequate supply of soap, toilet paper, and paper towels available for children in care.
At approximately 1:30 PM, LPA inspected the playground area. The playground was fully fenced and free from defects and dangerous conditions at the time of the inspection. The playground contained age-appropriate equipment, including a slide, teeter-totters, balls, crawling tunnels, playhouses, benches, basketball hoops, and sand/water tables. Canopies were provided to offer shade and protect children from direct sunlight during outdoor play. The playground slide was anchored to the ground with cushioning underneath to absorb children's falls.
California Law requires Child Care Centers licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to child's parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, fax, or electronic mail. The director was also reminded that Mandated Reporter Training ("General" and "Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting www.mandatedreporterca.com.
