25 | On February 4, 2026, at 10:45 AM, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Elimika Woods conducted an unannounced Annual/Random Inspection and met with licensee Hortensia Sowunmi. LPA disclosed the purpose of the visit and conducted a health and safety inspection, touring the facility both inside and outside. Present during the inspection were eight children in care (three school-age children and five preschool-age children), as well as the licensee’s son and his caretaker. The facility operates Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
The facility is a two-story home owned by the licensee and consists of four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, backyard, and a converted garage used as a childcare room. The home was observed to be clean, orderly, and well maintained. The facility is equipped with centralized heating and ventilation to ensure the safety and comfort of children in care. A safety gate was observed at the bottom of the living room staircase to prevent children five years of age or younger from accessing the second floor. LPA also observed a fireplace in the living room that was blocked to prevent children from accessing it.
On-limits areas include the living room, dining area, family room, downstairs bathroom, backyard, and converted garage. The designated isolation area is a section of the living room located away from other children in care.
Off-limits areas include the kitchen, the entire second level of the home, and two sheds located on the side yard. These areas are made inaccessible to children through the use of closed and/or locked doors and visual supervision.
At 11:20 AM, LPA inspected the backyard and confirmed there were no pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water present, in compliance with childcare licensing regulations. The outdoor play area includes play equipment and outdoor furniture such as benches, tables and chairs, sandboxes, hoop courts, playhouses, a play kitchen, and building blocks (Legos). The backyard is fully fenced and was observed to be free of defects or hazardous conditions. A large awning provides shade and protection from harmful sun exposure during outdoor play.
At 11:45 AM, LPA asked the licensee if she transports children in care; the licensee stated she does not provide transportation. LPA also asked whether there were any firearms in the home, and the licensee stated there were none. The licensee provided a copy of her daycare insurance carrier and policy information.
