32 | Each classroom has its own bathroom with child-accessible sinks and toilets. Adequate supplies, such as soap and paper towels, are available at all times. All sinks and faucets were in safe and sanitary operating condition. Children’s restrooms are separate from staff restrooms.
LPA inspected the outdoor play area. It is fully fenced, with trees and canopies providing shade for children at play. There is a play structure with a slide, which has cushioning underneath to absorb falls. LPA observed a swing set with rust-free chains, properly mounted and stable. There is a sandbox area near the play structure, however it is covered with tarps due to recent rainy weather. Age-appropriate play equipment is available and multiple staff members maintain ratio and supervision. Children may bring their water bottles to the outdoor play area, and an additional drinking fountain is available.
LPA inspected the staff breakroom, where children’s dry snacks are stored in cabinets. All dry snacks were within their expiration dates, and each box was labeled accordingly. The area was clean and free of evidence of rodents. Pesticides and other toxic substances were not stored in food cabinets. All storage containers for solid waste had tight-fitting covers in good repair.
LPA reviewed facility records, which showed that all individuals subject to criminal record review have a clearance or exemption and are associated with the facility. A census of the children was conducted, and the count matched the sign-in sheets. Children’s and staff files were reviewed and found to be complete and in good order. LPA reviewed the facility roster and obtained a copy. At least one opening/closing staff member holds a current CPR and First Aid certificate. Mandated Reporter Training was discussed, and certificates were reviewed. The Vice Principal’s CPR and First Aid certificate is current and expires on October 18, 2027. The Mandated Reporter Training certificate expires on September 23, 2026.
LPA reminded the director that a refrigerator must be used to store any medications requiring refrigeration. The center is equipped with fully stocked first aid kits, which are available in the classrooms.
The center provides snacks, and children bring their own lunches from home. Dry goods and canned foods were reviewed, and all items were within their expiration dates.
Site Director was reminded that all adults 18 and over, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a Child Care Center. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
