32 | Age-appropriate toys were observed in safe, good condition. The home, including all day care areas, was clean and well-maintained, with adequate heating and ventilation. A fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher is in the kitchen, and the combination smoke/carbon monoxide detector tested operable. A working telephone and fully stocked first aid kit are available. Fire clearance was granted on August 24, 2011.
The backyard play area is fully fenced, provides ample shade, and has a cushioned surface for fall protection. Play equipment was safe and in good condition. No hazardous materials, toxins, or accessible bodies of water were observed on the premises during the inspection. Per licensee, there are no firearms or fireplaces in the home.
Required postings were visible and available for public review. Disaster drills were last conducted on March 19, 2026. The licensee owns the property, and liability insurance for the day care is current for the 2025–2026 calendar year. Children’s files were reviewed, and the facility roster was also reviewed and a copy was obtained.
The licensee’s Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification expires April 25, 2027, and Mandated Reporter Training expires May 16, 2027. Licensee’s assistant’s Pediatric CPT/First Aid certification expires on November 2, 2026, and Mandated Reporter Training expires on August 22, 2027. LPA reminded the licensee that both certifications must be renewed every two years and that baby bouncers and drop-side cribs are not permitted in family child care homes.
Effective August 1, 2003, California Law requires Family Child Care Home licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to child's parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624B). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, fax, or electronic mail. The licensee was also reminded that Mandated Reporter Training ("General" and "Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting www.mandatedreporterca.com.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
