32 | There is an ample supply of age-appropriate toys, all observed to be safe and in good condition. The home, daycare area, backyard play area, and on-limit rooms are neat and clean, with adequate heating and ventilation, and shade to ensure safety and comfort. LPA did not observe any hazardous materials, toxins, or bodies of water accessible to children in care.
There is a fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguisher located in the kitchen area. Smoke detector and carbon monoxide were tested and found to be operational. Per licensee, there are no firearms in the home.
Children’s files were reviewed, and a copy of the roster was obtained by the LPA for the office file. All children’s files were complete and well organized. Facility files were also reviewed. The licensee’s Pediatric CPR/First Aid certificate is current and expires on June 18, 2027. Mandated Reporter Training was completed and expires on May 16, 2027. The licensee’s assistant’s Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification expires on June 18, 2027. The assistant has not completed Mandated Reporter Training due to language barriers and the training not being available in the assistant’s native language. The LPA reminded the licensee of the following: Mandated Reporter Training and Pediatric CPR/First Aid must be renewed every two years. Baby bouncers and drop-down cribs are not permitted in the day-care facility.
The licensee owns the property and does not carry childcare liability insurance. LIC 282 Affidavits Regarding Liability Insurance for Family Child Care Homes were signed, dated, and placed in the children’s files.
Effective August 1, 2003, California Law requires Family Child Care Home licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to child's parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624B). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, fax, or electronic mail. The licensee was also reminded that Mandated Reporter Training ("General" and "Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting www.mandatedreporterca.com.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
