32 | There were ample age-appropriate toys observed, all of which were safe and in good condition. The home is clean and neat, with adequate heating and ventilation for safety and comfort. Per licensee, there is a fireplace in the family room that is blocked with a TV stand to prevent access to children. No hazardous materials, toxins, or bodies of water accessible to children were observed on the premises during the inspection.
There is a fully charged 2A10BC fire extinguisher located between the kitchen and living room. The facility has a functioning combination smoke/carbon monoxide detector, which was tested during the inspection. Per the licensee, there are no firearms in the home. The licensee conducts and documents fire and disaster drills; the log indicates the most recent fire drill was conducted on February 18, 2026, and the most recent earthquake drill on March 11, 2026. All required licensing documents are posted and visible for public review. The licensee rents the property and does not carry liability insurance.
Children’s files were reviewed and found to be complete and in good order. The facility roster was reviewed, and a copy was obtained. All files were organized and complete.
The licensee’s Pediatric CPR/First Aid certification is current and expires on December 13, 2027. Mandated Reporter Training was completed and expires on February 20, 2028. LPA reminded the licensee that Mandated Reporter Training and CPR/First Aid must be renewed every two years. LPA also reminded the licensee that baby bouncers and drop-down cribs are not permitted in family child care homes.
Effective August 1, 2003, California Law requires Family Child Care Home licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to child's parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624B). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, fax, or electronic mail. The licensee was also reminded that Mandated Reporter Training ("General" and "Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting www.mandatedreporterca.com.
Licensee was reminded that all adults 18 and over living or working in the home, including employees and volunteers, except as specified in Health and Safety Code section 1596.871, must obtain a criminal record clearance or exemption, or transfer their existing clearance or exemption, prior to initial presence in a licensed Family Child Care Home. A civil penalty of $100.00 minimum/day for a maximum of 5 days or, if the penalty is for a repeat violation, for a maximum of 30 days per person will be assessed if this regulation is violated.
