25 | On 06/08/2022, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Melissa Domantay conducted a Pre-Licensing inspection today, for a change of Ownership. LPA met with Applicant Rachel Lafield, Head Director, Hyejin Lee, and Co-Director, Awa Gaye. LPA toured all areas of the facility for a health and safety inspection. 49 children and 11 staff were present at the time of this inspection. The hours of operation are Monday to Friday 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Facility will utilize paper sign in/out. All measurements and rooms remain the same from previous ownership.
A fire clearance, with a total capacity of 72, was received from the Oakland Fire Department on 3/30/2022. A clearance for 72 preschoolers ages 2 years to first grade entry.
LPA observed that the classrooms has sufficient lighting and appears to be clean and in good condition. There are 7 toilets and 6 sinks for children to utilize. LPA observed an ample supply of age appropriate activities, equipment, furniture, and are equipped with varied age appropriate materials and equipment. LPA observed the backyard play yard and front play yard areas, they are fully fenced and have ample supply of age appropriate activities, equipment, and furniture. Facility/Directors are reminded that play structure in the front play yard area should only be utilized by children between ages 5-12 years old per the manufacturer sticker on the play structure. There are two sand boxes that appear to be clean and maintained, Director stated that sandboxes are not currently being used due to Covid-19 precautions, facility will utilize them after summer. There is sufficient cushion to absorb a child's fall under the play structures and play areas. LPA observed ample amount of shade for children.
The building has a fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher in each classroom, 2 working combination smoke/carbon monoxide detector in the hall by the front entrance and Classroom 102, and first aid supplies. There is a working telephone at the center. LPA did not observe any hazardous items that would be accessible to children.
