32 | LPA inspected the cabinets and storage areas throughout the on-limit portions of the home, including the living room, hallway bathroom, first bedroom on the right side of the hallway, kitchen, and dining room. No hazardous materials, cleaning supplies, medications, or other toxic substances were observed to be accessible to children during today's inspection. LPA tested the smoke & carbon monoxide detector and verified that both were functioning properly. The home is equipped with a working telephone, a fully stocked first aid kit, a pull-down fire alarm system, and a fully charged 2A:10-B:C fire extinguisher that meets the standards established by the State Fire Marshal. All required emergency and safety equipment was observed to be in good working order at the time of the inspection.
LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
At 11:10 AM, LPA inspected the backyard and confirmed that no swimming pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water were present, in compliance with California childcare licensing regulations. The outdoor play area was fully fenced and free of defects or hazardous conditions. Age-appropriate play equipment and outdoor furnishings were available for children's use, including ride-on cars, slides, a climbing apparatus, tables, chairs, tricycles, teeter-totters, Big Wheels, a playhouse, a play kitchen, and a basketball hoop. Mature trees provided adequate shade and protection from direct sunlight during outdoor play. All outdoor equipment appeared to be in good condition and appropriate for the ages of the children in care.
Effective August 1, 2003, California Law requires Family Child Care Home licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to children’s parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624B). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, fax, or electronic mail. The licensee was also reminded that Mandated Reporter Training ("General" and "Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting www.mandatedreporterca.com.
At 11:25 AM, LPA requested and reviewed the files of five (5) children in care and one (1) staff member. All children's files contained the required Notification of Parent's Rights, Identification and Emergency Information, Consent for Emergency Medical Treatment, and Notification of Additional Children in Care forms. The staff file contained the required Health Screening Report, Statement Acknowledging the Requirement to Report Child Abuse, and Employee Rights documentation.
