32 | The home has two fireplaces, located in the den/office and the living room, which are properly blocked to prevent children’s access. LPA asked the licensee whether she transports children in care, and the licensee stated that she does not provide transportation. LPA also asked the licensee if there are any firearms in the home, and the licensee stated that there are none.
At 10:45 AM, LPA inspected the backyard area and confirmed that no pools, hot tubs, or other bodies of water were present, in compliance with childcare licensing regulations. The outdoor play areas include both the front yard and backyard, which are fully fenced and free from defects or hazardous conditions. Trees provide adequate shade to protect children from harmful sunlight. The play area includes small slides with cushioning underneath to absorb falls, as well as age-appropriate play equipment for infants and preschool-age children. Additional equipment includes swings, a toy car coaster, and a climbing/play structure designed to support large-motor skill development.
LPA inspected cabinets in the on-limits areas, including the kitchen, den/office, second-floor bathroom, second-floor living room, second-floor bedroom, and first-floor living room, and did not observe any hazardous materials or toxins accessible to children during today’s inspection. LPA tested the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and found them to be functioning properly. The home is equipped with a working telephone, a first aid kit, and a fully charged 3A40BC fire extinguisher that meets State Fire Marshal standards.
The licensee conducts and documents fire and disaster drills at least once every six months, with the most recent drill conducted on December 16, 2025. The licensee has completed Health and Safety training, and CPR and First Aid certification is current, expiring September 2027. The licensee and Staff #2 had not renewed their Mandated Reporter Training and stated they will register for the course today. The facility roster was reviewed and accurately reflects current children enrolled, as well as those no longer attending the facility.
At 11:00 AM, LPA requested and reviewed the files of five (5) children in care and two (2) staff members. All children’s files contained Identification and Emergency Information, Medical Consent forms, Parent’s Rights, and Parent Notification of Additional Children in Care. LPA also reviewed the health records for the licensee, staff, and children and determined that the facility is in compliance with immunization laws applicable to childcare providers.
At approximately 12:30 PM, LPA discussed the safe sleep regulations with licensee and discussed the Child Care Licensing Safe Sleep webpage at https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/child-care-licensing/public-information-andresources/safe-sleep as an additional resource. LPA also informed licensee of the importance of checking for recalled infant devices on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website at https://www.cpsc.gov/ and recommended they register all infant devices with the CPSC to be notified of any recalls on their purchased equipment.
