The facility provides snacks, lunch, and dinner for children in care. LPA was informed by the Director that dinner is served until 3:30 PM. Weekly menus are posted and readily available for review. Low fat milk is being served at the center. LPA reminded the Director that all persons involved in food preparation and food service must observe proper personal hygiene and sanitation practices to protect food from contamination.
This facility provides Incidental Medical Services – IMS. LPA reviewed storage of medication and equipment/supplies, and reviewed children’s, personnel, and administrative records. For IMS information see PIN 22-02-CCP. The following information regarding ADA was provided: US Department of Justice (USDOJ) toll-free ADA Information Line at (800) 514-0301 (voice) or (800) 514- 0383 (TTY) and link to publication: Commonly Asked Questions about Child Care Centers and the ADA are available at: https://www.ada.gov/resources/child-care-centers/.
LPA confirmed at approximately 2:20 PM that the staff bathroom was separate from the children’s bathroom. The children’s bathroom is located inside the classroom (R10). LPA verified that all sinks and toilets were operating in a safe and sanitary condition during today’s inspection. LPA flushed the toilets and ran the faucets to ensure the water temperature did not become too hot for children in care. The bathroom was well stocked with soap, toilet tissue, and paper towels.
The outdoor playground area is fully fenced and free of defects or hazardous conditions at the time of the inspection. The play structure was securely anchored to the ground and had adequate cushioning material underneath to absorb falls. The structure includes a slide and was observed to be in good repair. Additional outdoor equipment included small trucks, ride-on bikes, a wagon, tables, a bench, a teeter-totter, tricycles, a garden area, and a basketball hoop court. The center has a canopy that provide adequate shade and protection from direct sunlight during outdoor play. A storage shed located on the playground is locked and used to store equipment that is off limits to children in care.
California Law requires Child Care Centers licensees to report unusual incidents or injuries to children in care to child's parents and to the Department of Social Services using the Unusual Incident/Injury form (LIC 624). Incidents must be reported within 24 hours by phone, fax, or electronic mail. The director was also reminded that Mandated Reporter Training ("General" and "Child Care Providers") is required for all staff and is to be renewed every 2 years by visiting www.mandatedreporterca.com.
