32 | During the investigation process, it was reported that the resident (Resident 1) rarely wants to sit and continually walks around the memory care unit. It was stated that the resident is up for most of the night and only takes short naps during the day. Staff persons indicated that they try and redirect the resident to his bedroom throughout the night and are aware to assist him in elevating his feet due to his edema issues.
The resident’s physician is treating the resident for edema issues and has the resident on a sleep aide to assist with his sleeping patterns. The resident’s Physician Report states that the resident has wandering and sun downing behaviors. As mentioned, it was indicated that staff try and redirect the resident to sleep in his bed and are continually elevating his feet.
Staff did not ensure residents were supplied with toilet paper.
During the interview process, the administrator and six staff persons were interviewed. In addition, LPA Gurriere conducted a walk through of nine apartments in the memory care unit. All apartments had toilet paper in each bathroom. Staff were interviewed and they reported that if or when they run out of toilet paper for a resident’s room, they go to the main bathroom and get another roll, or they request that the housekeeper or the maintenance worker restock.
Although the above allegations mentioned may have happened, or are valid, there is not a preponderance of evidence to prove that the alleged violations occurred, and all of the above findings are Unsubstantiated.
