32 | On 8/7/24 LPA Laird conducted an interview with three staff (S1-S3). All staff interviewed stated they use their phones to log information into the Child Pilot app. Staff stated the app is used to track movement, bathroom use, and to communicate with staff and parents. All staff denied using their phones for personal use while watching children. Staff stated that during a recent wild fire, staff were monitoring their phones for air quality and evacuation orders. Staff denied their phone use impacted their supervision of children in care.
On 9/18/24 LPA Laird conducted interviews with two parents (P1, P2). Both parents interviewed stated they had seen staff using their phones to log children in. Both parents denied seeing staff use their phones in a way that seemed to hinder their supervision of children. Both parents stated during the wild fire, teachers were communicating with them more frequently due to evacuation orders. Both parents stated they had no concerns with the care and supervision being provided.
On 9/19/24 LPA Laird conducted two children interviews (C1, C2). Both children interviewed stated they liked their teachers and their school. Both children stated they felt safe at school. Both children stated they knew what a phone was. One child stated they had not seen teachers on the phone. One child stated they had seen teachers on the phone "calling somebody".
Although staff may have been on their phones during work hours, there is no evidence which suggests it interfered with their ability to supervise children, therefore, the findings are unsubstantiated.
Exit interview conducted and report was reviewed with director, Amanda Glenn. Appeal rights were provided. A notice of site visit was given and must remain posted for 30 days. Failure to comply with posting requirements shall result in an immediate civil penalty of $100. |
