Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Cherie Acosta conducted an unannounced case management inspection. Inspection was conducted in regards to a self reported incident.

It was reported that a backpack of a child in care had adult medication in a zip lock bag. The staff were unaware that the medication was in the backpack. Children in care accessed the backpack, took out the bag with medication and opened the bag. There were two teachers and 11 children present during the incident. Teachers could not be certain that children did not ingest medication. Child's parents were contacted. Parents were encouraged to take their children to the emergency department to ensure children did not ingest medication. It was determined by medical professionals that children did not ingest medication.
Parents were reminded to ensure no medication is not left in children's backpacks as all medication must be kept inaccessible to children. Staff are now checking children's backpacks to ensure there are no future incidents.

The attached type A violation is cited today and must be corrected by the due date. Upon receipt, licensee shall post and provide copies of this licensing report to parents/guardians of children in care at the facility and to parents/guardians of children newly enrolled at the facility during the next 12 months. All parents/guardians must sign an acknowledgement form of proof of receiving this report (LIC9224). The LIC 9224 must be placed in the child's file to be reviewed by licensing.

Exit Interview and report reviewed with Carrie Uribe
