25 | On April 02, 2023, Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) Miguel Herrera conducted an unannounced case management inspection and met with Site Supervisor Latrina Barbin. A tour of the facility was taken inside out, and census information was obtained. There is 49 preschool children present at the facility, capacity as specified on the license is being maintained. The purpose of this inspection was to inspect the facility’s new outdoor play structures.
The outdoor activity area was modified, and the outdoor activity area is approximately 18,045 square feet which accommodates the requested capacity of 66 preschool children. LPA observed sufficient natural shade provided by trees. There were also two canopy shade structures in the middle of the play yard. LPA recommended Site Supervisor to install cushions on the shade structure’s poles as best practice to mitigate children getting injured. Additionally, there was a patio area directly in the front of toddler #1 classroom which provided sufficient shade.
The 2 new play structures have a manufacturer label that states the equipment is designed for children ages 2 to 5 years old which is appropriate for the preschool children. LPA observed adequate cushioning in the form of rubber tiles underneath the play structure and landing of the slides to absorb falls. All toys and equipment observed appeared to be age appropriate. LPA observed a paved bike path area surrounded by grass. Facility will utilize water fountains both inside the classroom and in the play yard to provide drinking water. LPA observed a drinking fountain between preschool #1 and preschool #2, the drinking fountain had 3 drinking outlets. The drinking fountain between toddler #1 and toddler #2 had two drinking outlets. LPA advised for the staff to conduct frequent safety inspections of the play structure to check for any loose parts, cracks, and hazards. Supervisor Barbin is aware of child safety around the play structure and assumes all responsibility. Supervisor Barbin understands that children must be always supervised while using the play structure. Outdoor activity space surface is maintained in a safe condition and is free of hazards. Supervisor Barbin has the user’s manual and ensures that the manufacturer’s instructions will be followed. Playground equipment is in good condition, free of sharp, loose, or pointed parts. At the end of the tour LPA met with Supervisor Barbin to conclude the inspection. Supervisor Barbin agreed to submit proof of the installed pole cushions on the canopy shade structure.
